Great Tips for Our Health

This week: Apples

Because my kindergartener talked about Johnny Appleseed last week and because I ran across this in the "Farmer's Almanac" it's worth a look at...

Apples are rich in iron and phosphorus, 2 minerals that are good for the brain, liver and bowels.

The acids in the apple make itself digestible and assists in the digestion of other foods. It can aid in the cure and prevention of constipation. Also helps neutralize the effects of rich, fatty foods.

For constipation, eat one before bedtime every night.

When peeled and grated, it relieves flatulence and diarrhea.

It helps rid teeth of plaque.

Apple cider can be used against gout and rheumatism.

They are thought to help with memory loss. Eat an apple a day with 1 teas. honey and 1 cup of milk.

An apple in a sack of potatoes will prevent the potatoes from sprouting.

It will keep brown sugar moist.

It will keep cookies moist in a cookie jar.

Add lemon juice to an apple recipe if the apples lack tartness.
